The Windows search utility is really useful when it comes to finding certain files or certain file types. The problem is that in order to be able to quickly find a certain file, Windows needs to index all the data stored on your hard disk, which can take some time and can also reduce system performance. To avoid this, you could just use another search tool. Programs like XSearch can really help you in such situations.

This Windows application allows you to quickly find any file or file type, without having to rely on the indexing feature. The application can run directly from the downloaded executable, as it doesn't need installing. When running the application, you can just type a part of the file's name that you would like to search or a word contained by the file, in case it's text-based. After clicking on the Search button, the program will quickly display results.

Optionally, you can select the folder or partitions where the program should look for files. Results can be displayed in several ways, either as thumbnails, icons or in a detailed information mode. In case you want to re-use your search settings later on, you can just save them as a file and load it into the application whenever needed.

Pros

It allows you to quickly find a certain file or file type. Besides that, you can select multiple partitions on which the program should look for files. Furthermore, you can save the search settings as a file.

Cons

The program cannot display search results as you enter the name of the desired file. Using XSearch you can easily find any file or file extension on your computer's hard disk, without having to use the indexing service.
